All Treats, No Tricks: Healthier Halloween Trick-or-Treat Options

October 30, 2014 Michael Orozco

This year, pass out these healthier trick-or-treats to all the witches and zombies who come to your door. Stay tooth-friendly while still being kid-pleasing!

Looking for ways to give out healthier trick-or-treats this year? We’re not going to tell you to give out pennies and peppermints — that would be more terrifying than a haunted house! Instead, we’re sharing healthier trick-or-treats to pass out.

This year, hand out these healthier trick-or-treat options to all the witches and zombies who come to your door. Stay tooth-friendly while still pleasing your visitors! You might even be the most popular stop in the neighborhood!

Healthier trick-or-treat candy ideas

If you’re keen on passing out candy for Halloween, consider opting for these healthier, more tooth-friendly options:

  • Chocolate: According to the American Dental Association (ADA), chocolate is one of the better options to give to trick-or-treaters. Chocolate melts quickly after a bite. That means it washes off teeth easily, making it harder for bacteria to cling to enamel.
  • Sugar-free gum: Kids love long-lasting, bubble-making gum. The ADA encourages sugar-free gum because it generates saliva that helps remove food particles from the mouth.

Treasures for trick-or-treaters

If you really want to stand out from the crowd, passing out fun treasures to trick-or-treaters is a great way to do so!

  • Temporary tattoos and stickers: Stickers are inexpensive and universally loved. Feel free to add temporary tattoos to the mix — they’re like stickers that last longer!
    • Bonus: You get to see little ones delight as they choose their favorite spooky sticker or temporary tattoo.
  • Glow sticks: These unique treasures will bring bright lights to Halloween night. Just make sure your trick-or-treater isn’t too young for one.
  • Dress-up accessories: Help inspire a kiddo’s costume for next year! Small items like vampire teeth, an eye patch, costume jewelry, or sunglasses make fun additions to your Halloween offerings.

Healthier trick-or-treats don’t have to be boring

In preparation for Halloween, we suggest buying one to two items from each category. When your trick-or-treaters arrive, let them pick one treat and one treasure. It’s sure to make them smile!

Once the night ends, you deserve a pat on the back for providing healthier Halloween treats for trick-or-treaters.

Happy Halloween!
