Resolving to be more fit this year? Think outside the gym! We’re in Hawaii, after all. Try:

1. Surfing

Surfing is a great workout in Hawaii

Hawaii is considered to be the home of surfing and has been practiced for centuries. Grab your board and get down with this tradition.

Calories Burned: On average, surfers burn 125 calories/hour.
Great For: Working the shoulders and upper back when paddling out; strengthening the core and lower body when riding the wave.
Top Oahu Spots: Expert surfers need not miss these top spots. Novice riders can take lessons here.

2. Hula

Hula workout

Hula is an ancient art form that roots Hawaiians back to tradition. This ritual isn’t just a good workout, but can help enhance the mind and spirit.

Calories Burned: Dancers can burn up to 240 calories in one hour.
Great For: Core, leg and back strengthening, improving posture and motor coordination. As a low impact dance, hula can be enjoyed by any age and ability.
Top Oahu Spots: Several resorts provide lessons for tourist, but more committed dancers can use this guide to find a hula halau.

3. Hiking

Yes, Hawaii is known for beaches and waves, but we have incredible mountain-scapes too. Take in the view while working up a sweat.

Calories Burned: On average, every hour you hike can burn over 400 calories.
Great For: Endurance, cardio and leg strengthening.
Top Oahu Spots: With so many trails to choose from, we actually have a whole blog dedicated to our favorites.

Remember: Good oral health relates to good overall health. Take care of your teeth to keep in tiptop shape.
